KB is thrilled to present Ruby Beenhouwer’s Interior Castle, a series of works on paper.

For this collection of small, intimate works, Beenhouwer painted from photographs, dreams, and life. Arrayed along the wall, the works suggest spontaneous recollections of these subjects, like flashes of fevered visions, cracks in the fortress of the memory palace.

The pace of her process and the ambiguity of her subject matter mirror the rhythm and murky feeling of remembering. Dreams come and go quickly; names are lost, faces distorted. But Beenhouwer’s immediate and sure marks insist on themselves, urging a closer look and luring the viewer into an erotic zone at the edge of understanding.

Beenhouwer’s work dwells in this grey area, not to refuse clarity, but to sustain desire: to tap the charged space between knowing and not knowing. This push-and-pull (between seeing and losing, frustration and pleasure) powers a closed circuit where meaning is generated by the search itself.
