a house with no door
Hailey Scheff
May 16th - June 29th
KB is proud to present A House With No Door, the gallery’s first solo presentation from Hailey Scheff. The exhibition will move through a dream world of healing and memory, where the subconscious cracks open and something new reveals itself.
Scheff’s work draws on Surrealist ideas, using techniques like automatism, dream imagery, and found objects to explore the inner self. Each piece serves as a kind of capsule — a moment of personal healing made visible.
Throughout the exhibition, the image of the house appears as a central symbol. In Virulent, a house lies tilted and abandoned on the canvas. In Althea, a thorny flower wraps tightly around a rusted home, trapping it in its stem.
These solitary houses stand in contrast to the familiar memories they usually evoke — homes once full of family, neighbors, and life. Seen here in decay or isolation, they lose their original meaning and take on a new, symbolic presence. Rather than places of shelter, they become gateways into the subconscious — reimagined forms shaped by emotion, transformation, and time.
The found objects in Scheff’s work act as bridges between the subconscious and the real world. By pairing everyday materials with dreamlike imagery, she reveals a spiritual link between the objects we encounter in daily life and the ones that appear in our inner worlds. This connection invites us to see the ordinary as something sacred — charged with memory, emotion, and meaning beyond its physical form.
What unfolds is a quiet progression — a movement through states of emotional residue, where symbolism becomes a mode of processing. The works do not illustrate healing so much as inhabit it, capturing the slow, nonlinear rhythm of inner repair. In this world without doors, boundaries blur and meaning seeps in from all sides, allowing the subconscious to take shape in fragments, textures, and forms that feel both distant and intimately known.
The show will be open by appointment only until June 29th.
